Keep up the good work for others in your care...

Dear Mr. De Leon

It seems like yesterday that we got the call from your nurse indicating a change in Kate’s condition and that she would contact Kate’s doctor to follow up. The doctor called us soon as soon as she arrived and went over her concerns about my mother and how they would try their best to care for her in the manner Kate would have wanted. Shortly thereafter she called to inform us that Kate had passed away despite her best efforts.

We, Kate’s daughters and families, wish to thank you and the Abington staff for the excellent care and attention you have paid to our mother over the eight years that she was a patient there. From the beginning, when she first went in, your social workers understood the resistance a person like her puts up in going from an extended care facility to a nursing care facility and Darren helped ease that difficult transition. The nursing staff made sure she received the medical attention, medicine and on occasion when she needed hospitalization they kept us informed and involved in the decision to hospitalize her. You made sure the transition from the hospital to rehab in the nursing home was fully staffed and smooth. The activity staff tried their best to incorporate her into the activities of reading the newspaper, to bingo, to sing-a-longs to watching TV as much as she could handle including involvement in holidays, religious and secular and personal care such as the beauty parlor which she looked forward to. Most of all the CNA’s like Thelma and Dolores especially, really did great work in caring for our mother keeping her clean, making sure she had her glasses and false teeth and making sure her clothes were properly laundered and that she ate meals. This was especially important when she went through the transition from regular meals to pureed food. They in particular exuded the heartening and caring feeling they had for Kate as a person that most of the rest of the staff also shared in and you are all to be commended for that.

We, the Harris family, the Lessin family and the Rosenberg family thank you for your efforts on Kate’s behalf and hope you keep up the good work for others in your care and those to come in the future.

Sincerely,

Elaine Harris and family
